Bright Lights Learning Center
Manila, Phillipines
The Bright Lights Learning Center provides a school program for people aged between 12 and 20 years who have no opportunity to receive formal education. Established in the slums of Manila, the school’s mission is to bring students to the point where they can attend mainstream schools and colleges. The current principal is a former student who graduated through the Center!
In 2019, Pastor Simon & Cindy visited Bright Lights and were able to speak into the lives of the staff and see the work firsthand. Since this visit, Horizon has supported this ministry by sponsoring two young sisters (who have no other source of income) to live in the school’s care home so they can continue their education. The eldest is studying Psychology at Uni and the youngest is in grade 9. This sponsorship covers their cost of living and transport costs, and is in line with the Center’s preferred model of financial support.
The ministry was started in 2003 by Australian missionaries. It is now overseen by Voice of Grace Australia, which also operates:
- Threads of Hope, a livelihood project for women that enables them to earn money
- Care Homes, a safe place for at risk students to live, that takes them away from dangerous and difficult slum conditions.

Prayer & Partner
Please pray for our sponsored students, their classmates, the staff and all involved at Bright Lights as they continue to spread God’s word and make a tangible difference in the lives of their community. You can also support this ministry financially through our giving program.
John & Christine Carby
Siargao, Phillipines
John and Christine Carby, along with their daughters, are ACCI missionaries to Siargao Philippines.
The Carby’s moved to Siargao nearly 10 years ago to establish Nissi Christian Academy. They also run various projects to help them connect with the local community in Siargao, such as a English language church service each week. While Christine spends much of her time helping to lead Nissi, John has connected with the local surfing community which has opened incredible doors across the nation of the Philippines to share the gospel.
Nissi Christian Academy caters for more than 200 students in grades K-8. Students from the local community attend the school and learn across all key curriculum areas in an accredited school setting. Students also learn about the love of Jesus. As funds allow, the school is planning to add extra grades in future years.
Local, Regional & International Missions
Horizon believes in spreading the Gospel in our local community, our region and across the globe. To support this we are committed to ensuring that at minimum a tithe of all giving to the church is invested directly into missions work in Australia and beyond. As part of this every year we provide gifts of support to local, regional and international missions and pastors.
In recent years our gifts and missions have included:
- Support for multiple Pastors in regional NSW, including those who were hard hit by the last drought
- Food hamper program for Mexico during significant COVID related shortages
- Capital Healing Rooms in Canberra
- Thailand Missions supporting programs for marginalised women
- YWAM in Eastern Europe
Please continue to pray for this important work. If you would like to contribute financially you can do so here.
